Thomas Spychala

  Thomas Spychala, age 74, of Perrysburg, OH passed peacefully into his new heavenly life on March 13 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 21, 1948, in Toledo, OH to Raymond and Irene (Braciak) Spychala. Tom was a graduate of St. Hyacinth Grade School and Macomber High School. He started working with Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 33 when he graduated.  Went to apprentice school and became a journeyman.  His first job was with Fry Brothers and several other HVAC companies, including Fred Christen & Sons.  Eventually he took a skilled trades position as a tinsmith for the Chrysler Toledo Machining Plant for 17 years, retiring at age 60. He was a former parishioner of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church and All Saints Catholic Church in Rossford. A devoted husband, son, brother and uncle, Tom loved being with family whether entertaining at family pool parties, playing euchre, or babysitting his great-nieces and nephews. He enjoyed dancing (including line dancing), working in the yard and gardening, playing horseshoes and had a passion for cooking. He loved collecting FLAMINGOS and wore many flamingo decorated shirts.  He also spent his days feeding and watching the birds and squirrels playing in the yard.  He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He also loved traveling with his wife Deborah and family across the US and to several other countries, with an Alaskan Cruise, Ireland/Scotland and the Panama Canal being special highlights. He and Deb attended the Leland Wine Festival for over 20 consecutive years.  And finally, none of us will ever forget his love for music and his record collection. What a great guy! 

  Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deborah (Bielawski) Spychala; siblings, Judy (Dan) Edwards, twin brother Charles Spychala, Kathy (George) Beakas, twin sisters Marie (Mike) Jankowski and Janet Spitulski; and several special and loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, David Spychala.

  A memorial Mass and celebration of his life will be held on April 15 at 10:30 am at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church preceded by visitation at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom's honor to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, St. Hyacinth's Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Arrangements were entrusted to Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 419-476-9176.
