Benny Dudek died on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the age of 93 in Monclova, Ohio, from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.
Benny was born in Rossford, Ohio, on March 25, 1928, to Louis and Lottie (Kasman) Dudek. A 1946 graduate of Rossford High School, his life-long employer was the Libbey-Owens-Ford Company of Rossford. He retired from LOF after 12 years as Plant Committeeman for the United Glass and Ceramic Workers of North America, AFL-CIO-CLC. During Army service in the 1950s he sang with the 43rd Infantry Winged Victory Chorus. The group performed across Central Europe, sharing the stage with Danny Kaye, Johnny Amoroso and others. Benny helped in the successful effort to racially integrate the Chorus.
Benny enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially golf, bowling and politics. As a younger man, he led his own polka band, and he served for over 30 years as a choir director at St. Hyacinth Church in Toledo.
Benny is survived by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn (Art) Dudek; sons Allan J. and George D. Dudek and daughter Annette Dudek Shine, as well as 7 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Gerald D. Dudek and granddaughter Monica R. Shine.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 719 Evesham Ave. in Toledo with a rosary at 10 a.m. The funeral Mass will follow there at 11:00 a.m. with interment in Calvary Cemetery.
